The brief was to redevelop, modernise and extend an existing house, to provide for individual adult family members cohabitating in shared living zones, but also providing zoned living and entertaining areas, for when occasion or desire requires ‘getaway’ space and privacy. The clients wanted to retain the existing footprint as much as possible. They also wanted abundant light and increased spatial heights.
This home ‘walks the walk’ with its sophisticated elegance and timeless simplicity in floor plan utilitarian design approach. The home perfectly harnesses energy efficient siting orientation for both indoor and outdoor private living and environment sustainability.
It is a compact home successfully designed to fit a compact budget.
The simple design form underscores its layout with its single pitched expressed roof plane. Elevations are carefully considered for linear and vertical dimensioning and for minimal material offcut wastage. The use of natural prefinished materials for the external and internal palette, combine harmoniously. The detached carport and studio structure offers private protection from the west street exposure, to the north outdoor secluded space which connects directly to the internal living spaces. The design can be easily replicated, modified and adapted to various configurations for specific lifestyles and locations.
