Award-winning creative agency ‘Reactive’ looked to expand their headquarter offices into the ground floor of their existing building. The brief was to create an exciting work environment, reflecting the clients’ values and innovate approach: ‘Brand Architecture’, balancing the location and feel of ‘Funky Fitzroy’ with the company’s professional ‘Corporate Cool’.
The existing space was little more than a concrete shell with small and dark office cubicles, plus an awkwardly shaped leftover space at the back. Another site challenge was to create an architectural quality space that would merge both levels, existing upstairs and new downstairs, into a single company culture.
The screened yet visually permeable timber screened staircase is a ‘connector’ within the open plan warehouse spaces, together with carefully placed feature elements/zones.
Complementing the minimalist rawness of the design with warm, feel-good ‘Insulas’ for meetings, breakout, relaxation, is what sets this project apart. Integrated bike racks promote sustainability, as do recycled materials, timbers and exposed concrete floors. Company colours guided the colour scheme, merging branding and architecture with corporate identity.
Timber walls and ceilings created intimacy within large spaces. Grass carpet and whimsical lighting hint to the fun that could be had.
Consideration to detail in areas like the ‘Secret Coffee Point’ are concealed within the joinery walls. Other ‘secret’ doors lead to meeting rooms and adjoining staircases to enhance the WOW factor.
