To achieve a substantial extension within a relatively small building space, Peter Jackson Design has created a retreat and bedroom level on the upper floor, while placing the home theatre and cellar in the basement, allowing the ground floor space to be used for family living and outdoor entertaining.
By re-instating previously removed or damaged original features and keeping the upper storey additions in-roof over the original house, a single storey appearance was maintained to preserve the heritage protected front façade.
It’s difficult to do an extension that works in harmony with an existing building but Kilburn has a respectful balance between its original heritage and the modern contemporary extension.
