The challenge here was to revive and enhance the original tired and dated single storey weatherboard dwelling and transform it into something that would not only make a statement, but also provide a warm and modern living area for the clients.
Much has been achieved on a modest budget, and the new home mirrors little of its past.
Stunning mountain views create a glorious setting and palette. The designer has been careful to choose materials, colours and spaces which are sympathetic to the natural environment. The extensive use of spotted gum timber cladding is offset in form and texture with the entry stone walls and Colorbond cladding.
Inside, the feeling is comfortable and is not overly stated. The smart use of low level glazing to the passages and bathrooms brings light into the house. The result is a residence that sits well within its surroundings, and must truly be a joy to come home to.
