Mt Martha Residence

Hunter and Richards

An extension to a beach residence where the focus for the parents retreat was created so the owners could sit in their bath and take in the magnificent bay views has achieved a commendation for the Most Innovative Bathroom Design. The design, which includes a luxurious en-suite bathroom, demonstrates a spacious feel due to efficient space planning and the simple lines. The transition from the bath to the shower is smooth, and heated towel rails are in easy reach. Practical considerations for zoned lighting, venting and thoughtful cabinetry design are well represented in the working drawings prepared by the designer. The ensuite bathroom flows as part of the bedroom, with only the toilet enclosed for privacy. The vanity basins are hidden by the bedhead. The deliberate openness of the bathroom is enhanced by the generous ceiling height, with clerestory windows that bathe it with light. There is no visual bulk to the design of the vanity cabinetry that house two vanity basins; they cantilever off the back of the low height bedhead. Mirrors, lighting, open shelves, generous drawers and a sleek custom-made towel rail have been thoughtfully detailed into the design. The colours and textures of materials in the interior of this ensuite bathroom are warm, well co-ordinated and visually balanced with other material selections.
