Having lived on this Mt Eliza property for some years, the clients decided to re-build on the expansive site, and to make the most of the views across Port Phillip Bay.
This design had to take advantage of the slight land slope and established gum tress. The result is a clever incorporation of boxes and lines to shape and form a residence that doesn't get lost on the land, but doesn't dominate it either. A combination of solid elements, blade walls and cantilevers create a unique and very liveable dwelling that opens itself up to its environment, and makes you feel part of its surrounds.
This is a building that looks good from all sides. It is designed with a palette – both inside and out – that is warm and comfortable. Inside, the attention to detail is not compromised, with a wonderful choice of materials, and a smart layout throughout. Bathrooms are clean, bright and luxurious. The combined lounge, dining and kitchen open up to an expansive timber deck and pool vista, all of which take in the bay view. 'Royston' is indeed a worthy winner!
