Australian Copyright Council reports onChanges to Copyright Act

The Australian Copyright Council reports that on Friday 22 December 2017, most of the amendments made by the Copyright Amendment (Disability Access & Other Measures) Act 2017 come into force.

On 15 December the Government announced that the original Copyright Regulations 1969 will be replaced by the Copyright Regulations 2017, which also come into force on 22 December. The Government has also made the Copyright Legislation Amendment (Technological Protection Measures) Regulations 2017 which create new TPM exceptions.

The new exceptions cover things done for fair dealing for access to copyright material by people with a disability and flexible dealings by educational limitations pursuant to s 200AB(3).

Those exceptions will commence on 1 April 2018.
