Multi-Unit Developments

Multi-Unit Developments See Significant Growth Across Victoria

Multi-unit developments (MUDs) mainly in the CBD and inner Melbourne, but also in regional Victoria, have seen significant growth in recent years. Emerging waste streams, such as organics and e-waste also create new management considerations in the design of buildings and how they function.

In line with the Apartment Design Standards developed by the Department of Environment Land, Water and Planning to improve the liveability of apartment living in Victoria, a new guide is needed to improve waste management practices and increase recycling.

Better practice options and technologies regarding waste management and recycling in MUDs are also constantly changing, therefore Sustainability Victoria has recently undertaken a complete revision of the 2010 guide – Best Practice for Waste Management in Multi-unit Developments (Revised 2017).

A draft version of the amended Guide to Better Practice for Waste Management and Recycling in Multi-unit Developments (Sustainability Victoria 2018) is now open for comment.

BDAV will be providing a response; however if you would like to contribute please review the draft at the below link and provide feedback to info@bdav.org.au by no later than Friday, 6 July 2018.
